ABOUT THE PRESBYTERY

Welcome to our website!

We are the Inverness, Lochaber and Ross Presbytery of the Free Church of Scotland. ‘What is a Presbytery?’ we hear you ask! Good question. A Presbytery covers a geographical area and oversees all the Free Church congregations within its boundaries. It meets regularly to co-ordinate and advance gospel work amongst its congregations. Each congregation is represented by a minister and an elder. Presbyteries also have the responsibility of licensing and ordaining ministers of the gospel, and of overseeing the progress of candidates for the ministry. There are six Presbyteries in the Free Church, and we are one of them.

We’ve created this website to raise awareness of our Presbytery as part of the larger work of the church, as we seek to “declare the excellencies of him who called us out of darkness into his marvellous light.” There are links to each congregation’s website so that you can check out what’s happening in each area, and we’ll soon be uploading a video to explain a bit more about what a Presbytery does.

Thank you for visiting, and please do follow us on Facebook!

WAYS TO SERVE

The Apostle Paul highlights the importance of all members of the church

using their gifts for the building up of the church and the glory of Jesus.

If you are a member of a congregation in the ILR Presbytery, check here for ways to

serve the ILR Presbytery, as well as the broader Free Church of Scotland denomination.

As you prayerfully consider your passions, gifting, and capacity,

please let your local minister or elder know if you are interested in serving.

Communication

The Presbytery would like to cultivate more connection among the congregations through this website, a newsletter, and our Facebook page. Help is needed in the maintenance of all these communication avenues.
